Gimme More
BRITNEY SPEARS
Producer(s): Producer: Nate "Danja" Hills Writers: Danja, K. Hilson, J. Washington, M. AraicaPublisher: not listed
Label: Jive
Given Britney Spears' persistent high profile, it matters little what the former pop princess releases to mark her return to musical pop culture—radio will indulge on curiosity alone. "Gimme More" certainly scratches the itch. Opening spoken line "It's Britney, bitch," followed by a giggle, proves she has the last laugh, no matter how controversial her public behavior during the past year. The uptempo dance track is a cutesy if redundant jam in which the title is repeated no fewer than three dozen times in four minutes. Instantly most added at top 40, Spears is destined for a lofty chart debut. But the question remains: Will her less-than-stellar performance at the MTV Video Music Awards cripple long-term interest in the song and Brit's determination to be a performer instead of a punch line? —Chuck Taylor

Britney Spears, Gimme More
How do you recover from the worst 12 months of your life? With this, a comeback single so sleek, sophisticated and brilliantly executed that it doesn't just divert attention from Britney's breakdown - it completely obliterates any memory of a bald singer attacking cars with an umbrella and proves that Britney, like Madonna, is capable of pulling something magical out of the bag when she needs to. The opening line - 'It's Britney, bitch'' - quickly grows stale but 'Gimme More' is still a triumphant addition to the post-'Maneater' modern pop landscape and should finally give Britney a truly convincing urban pop crossover hit.

Simon Cowell was interviewed by Extra recently. Of course the question on everyones mind is what they thought of Britney's VMA performance.
Simon said: "She stole the show whether you liked it or not. The only thing you heard about the following day was Britney Spears."
Simon continued by saying that "she's had more attention in the last 48 hours than any artist on the planet! When she's on it, she's incredible." |
